MGT 487 – Individual Assignment #3 Project Schedule (Week 5)
NOTE: All submitted work is to be your original work. You may not use any work from another student, the Internet or an online clearinghouse. You are expected to understand the Academic Dishonesty and Plagiarism Policy, and know that it is your responsibility to learn about instructor and general academic expectations with regard to proper citation of sources as specified in the APA Publication Manual, 7th ed. (Students are held accountable for in-text citations and an associated reference list only).
Purpose:
Students will become familiar with project management technology to develop a project schedule.
Outcomes Met With This Assignment:
plan a project that meets organizational goals and that has a high probability of success
use appropriate technologies for researching, documenting, and communicating with stakeholders throughout the project life cycle
Instructions:
This assignment is the third of five individual assignments. You are expected to complete the assignment individually without any assistance. You will create a project schedule.
Step 1: Microsoft Project
Before you start the project, access Microsoft Project to ensure there is no problem with using the tool.
Go to the Content area to ‘Required Software’ and follow the instructions provided to access the project management software.
Read the grading rubric for the assignment. Use the grading rubric while writing the paper to ensure all requirements are met.
Step 2: Develop the Project Schedule
Use the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) that your group generated in Week 3 as a basis for this assignment. Ensure that at least five (5) major phases and 50 activities are identified, and make sure that all of the work required for the project is captured.
Create a Microsoft Project for your project.
Ensure that your project file shows the following columns: Name, Duration, Start, Finish, Predecessors, Successors, Cost, and Resource Names.
Enter project phases, subheadings (as needed), and activities. Assign task durations, predecessors, and successors, and specify any appropriate constraints.
Specify resources (including human resources, materials, equipment, and/or services as appropriate) in the Resources tab, and assign a cost for each resource.
Assign resource(s) to each activity, and ensure a natural roll-up of costs and duration to the phase level and for the overall project.
Step 3: Review the Project Schedule for accuracy and completeness.
Ensure your file includes all required elements and does not include unnecessary constraints.
Step 4: Submit the schedule in the Assignment Folder.
If you don’t already have a OneDrive account, create one. When in the Microsoft Project App, choose “Save As” and save the document in your OneDrive. Then go to the Assignments section in LEO where you normally submit your assignments, and you should be able to select and upload that file from your OneDrive even if you do not have the MS Project application to open it. You will be submitting a .mpp file, which the instructor will be able to open because the instructor has access to MS Project.
Self-Plagiarism: Self-plagiarism is the act of reusing significant, identical or nearly identical portions of one’s own work. You cannot re-use any portion of a paper or other graded work that was submitted to another class even if you are retaking this course. You also will not reuse any portion of previously submitted work in this class. A zero will be assigned to the assignment if self-plagiarized. Faculty do not have the discretion to accept self-plagiarized work.
